Mentor: Rachel Geike, Founder of Snow Monkey Ice Treats

Aki was born and raised in Hong Kong and moved to Los Angeles after she completed her college degree in Food and Nutrition at the University of Hong Kong. She is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy (OT) at the University of Southern California because she values the creative, person-centered, and holistic care embodied by the field. As a recent immigrant to the United States, Aki embraces her identity as a new American and strives to contribute to the community utilizing her healthcare knowledge.

Aki has been volunteering and practicing as an occupational therapy student in different sites, including LA County Department of Mental Health Northeast Wellness Center, California Rehabilitation Institute, and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). From her fieldwork experiences, Aki recognized mental health is still a taboo in the American society. By participating in the 2020 Miss LA Chinatown Pageant, Aki hopes to reach out to the local community, promoting mental health and well-being among the Chinese American community of Los Angeles.

Aki would like to thank her mentor Rachel Geike, Founder of Snow Monkey Ice Treats.
