Destiny Tsui is a first-year college student majoring in Computer Science at East Los Angeles Community College. Born and raised in Monterey Park, California, she learned Cantonese from her family who emigrated from Hong Kong. In high school, Destiny spent her summers eagerly learning in STEM programs. In Tech Camp at UCLA, she learned engineering design, conducted research, soldered circuits, and coded microcontrollers. Utilizing that knowledge, she designed, built, and tested a tower as a civil engineering project. At the California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science at UCI, she learned about manipulating sound in virtual reality to create an iOS application that helps soldiers cope with post-traumatic stress disorder. Currently, Destiny devotes her time working at ELAC’s Information Technology office, assisting technicians and supporting students with campus information and resources.

As a first-generation college student and Chinese American from a low-income family, Destiny is incredibly grateful for her learning opportunities and wishes to use the Miss LA Chinatown platform to encourage women and minorities to realize their own potential in STEM. She wants everyone to have the experiential hands-on learning opportunities to explore career goals and bring about change in the world. By shattering the boundaries, Destiny hopes to support underserved communities and inspire the next generation to explore their curiosity.

Destiny would like to thank her mentor Katherine Gao, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Gao Republic abs sponsor Phoenix - PDQ Inc.
