Message from the Vice President, Pageant Chair, Producer & Dance Instructor
I still remember the first time I saw a Miss Los Angeles Chinatown when I was in sixth grade. I was captivated by her beauty, grace, and poise. In that moment, I thought to myself, “I want to grow up to be just like her.” Years later, after graduating from college, I had the privilege of becoming Miss Los Angeles Chinatown myself. Now, many years later, I am deeply honored to return again as Pageant Chair to guide and support the next generation of Chinese American women as they grow into the leaders of tomorrow.
My vision has always been to preserve and celebrate our heritage, traditions, and community values. I believe it is especially important to inspire and educate young people. In today’s fast-paced world, where everything moves so quickly, I chose to focus on what truly lasts: our roots, our families, our communities, and the contributions we make to society.
Our contestants participate in a rigorous three-month leadership training program. During this time, they develop public speaking skills, deepen their understanding of Chinese heritage, and receive thoughtful guidance on presentation and self-confidence. Equally important, we emphasize teamwork, mutual respect, and positivity. My goal is to create an environment where young women feel safe, supported, and empowered to grow.
To me, this pageant is more than a competition. It is a transformative experience and, for many, a once-in-a-lifetime journey. Contestants gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their heritage, and how to present their best selves with confidence and authenticity. It is also a meaningful experience shared with loved ones—parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and partners—who walk alongside them throughout this journey.
On pageant night, the stage showcases the culmination of months of dedication, learning, and personal growth. I hope each contestant emerges as a confident, thoughtful, and articulate young woman, deeply connected to her community and inspired to contribute to the continued growth and strength of the Chinese American community in Southern California.
I am deeply grateful for the support of so many wonderful people who have made this journey possible. My sincere thanks to our Chairman and President, Mr. Chester Chong, for his unwavering support and trust in me, as well as to our Board Officers and Board Members for their guidance and commitment. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Mr. Peter Zen of The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites, Los Angeles, for his valued partnership and generous assistance. Finally, I am thankful for my dedicated team of helpers and the Miss Los Angeles Chinatown alumnae. Thank you all for your time, dedication, and support in making tonight possible.
With love,
Christina Wu
